Disfiguring blood vessels

Treatments

The skin’s blood vessels are normally so thin that they are not visible. However, under certain conditions the vessels can widen, thicken or burst, making them more prominent and visible.

When blood vessels are altered in this way, the skin can become flushed. It is particularly common in areas that are often exposed to the sun, cold and wind. This is particularly true of the nose, cheeks and décolletage. Disfiguring blood vessels can be effectively treated with laser and IPL.

In laser treatment, a high-intensity light pulse is delivered and absorbed by the red blood cells in the walls of the blood vessel, heating and destroying them. Depending on the amount of vessels to be treated, several sessions may be required to achieve the desired results. An IPL treatment is similar to the above.

After treatment, heat, redness and swelling may occur in the treatment area. There is also a small risk of scarring and change in skin color in the treatment area. The treatments are performed no more often than every 6 weeks and the treatment area per time is no larger than the patient’s palm.
