Eyelid surgery
The age at which you start to notice a loss of skin elasticity is individual. Wrinkles and excess skin around the eyes can appear as a natural part of ageing. The subcutaneous fat around the eyes also often decreases over time, which can lead to a more tired appearance. In older patients, the eyelid skin can droop so much that vision can be disturbed. Often, excess skin containing fat also forms 'bags' under the eyes.

Eyelid surgery is performed under general or local anaesthesia. There is a wide variety of surgical techniques used in eyelid plastic surgery. However, they all aim to remove excess skin and redistribute underlying tissues, including fat, to achieve a more youthful and vibrant appearance.
Eyelid surgery is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures and leaves few discreet, barely noticeable scars. The scars are placed very discreetly in the crease of the eyelid on eyelid plasty and on the lower eyelid either under the eyelashes or from the inside via the mucous membrane.
The patient can usually go home later the same day after the operation.
