Some people find that they have too long a distance between their nose and upper lip, often in combination with a thin upper lip, which can be troublesome. The desire to have full lips may be part of one's basic appearance or arise with age. During the ageing process, the distance between the nose and the upper lip can lengthen by up to 1.5 cm due to both a decrease in lip volume and a weakening of the lip muscles.

Lip lift methods

A lip lift (also called a gull wing or bullhorn lip lift) removes a small piece of skin directly under the nose, shortening the upper lip. At the same time, the underlying tissue is tightened, resulting in a fuller upper lip and a more youthful appearance.

A lip lift shortens the distance between the nose and the lip line. Sometimes the technique is combined with a lengthening of the lip line from the inside, known as V-Y plastic. The procedure aims to create better balance and harmony in the face.

The procedure can be done under local anaesthesia and can also be combined with injection treatments such as lip fillers and/or botulinium toxin (botox in the lips).

Can you do a lip lift without surgery?
Botulinum toxin type A injection can be used to rotate the upper lip slightly upwards, giving a natural result that many people are often very happy with. The result lasts on average 3-6 months. The treatment can be repeated if desired.
How can you get fuller lips?
To get fuller, more contoured or moisturised lips from the inside, Hyaluronic acid injections, known as Fillers, are often used. With the right choice of product, technique and practitioner, this gives natural and safe results and the treatment can be tailored to each individual's needs and wishes both in terms of shape and volume.
