Dr Riikka Veltheim is a specialist in plastic surgery with over two decades’ experience in aesthetic, reconstructive and reparative surgery. She completed her doctoral thesis whilst studying medicine, obtained her PhD as early as 1999 and, upon qualifying as a specialist in 2005, became one of Sweden’s youngest ever plastic surgeons. After nearly two decades as a specialist at Akademikliniken and previous service at Karolinska Hospital, she has been working at The Faculty in Stockholm since January 2025.

Riikka’s main focus is on procedures for the body following pregnancy, childbirth or significant weight loss, and she has extensive experience in tummy tucks, rectus diastasis repair and breast surgery. As a mother of three grown-up children, she has a strong personal commitment to helping women regain their quality of life following the damage and changes the body can undergo. During her time at Karolinska, she was part of the reconstructive team for breast cancer patients and was responsible for the national register of patients who had undergone surgery following significant weight loss.

In addition to her clinical work, Riikka has a strong academic background. She has conducted research into breast cancer and the regeneration of bone tissue in the facial skeleton at the Stockholm Craniofacial Centre, and is currently conducting research alongside Per Hedén into facial ageing and the impact of plastic surgery on the brain and well-being. She has also served on the board of the Swedish Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (SFEP). Since 2023, she has also been co-hosting the popular podcast ‘Niptalks’ alongside dermatologist Anne Wetter, where they demystify and explain aesthetic procedures.
