Hi, just had a face, neck and nose surgery by Jonas R. Too early to say anything about the end result yet but he is magical in his practice so it can only be the best. I have never been treated so well and taken care of, all the way from the first consultation, surgery planning, reception, the surgery team, the two-night stay. First class VIP feeling right through including the environment which is also TopNotch, private room with TV "sea view" and large veranda/balcony. They have their own chef who prepares wonderful food based on wishes and possible allergens. Room service 24/7 Super professionals the whole team I must say. I will definitely come back here again. Kind regards, Anna

So professional, nice treatment from start to finish. Dr. Heden inspires great confidence and I received great information after the operation about how it went. The anesthesia and surgical staff were fantastic, I felt so calm and felt safe in their hands. The care in the nursing ward after the operation was top notch, nice, safe and good breakfast🌸

World class on-site surgery. A professional clinic with Sweden's most skilled and experienced doctors. I have had surgery at other clinics but have not experienced skill and service at this level. Big thanks to Per Hedén and the rest of the staff.

Modern business where everything is new and except for the staff, they are old in the paperclip, incredibly experienced and in sync from the reception, nurses, nurses, anesthesia staff and surgeons. No questions are stupid, and they have a rock-solid understanding of pain relief. When the breakfast tray arrives after waking up, you become a little religious with happiness.

Nice staff throughout the clinic and good aftercare, responds quickly to emails. Lovely Riikka operated on me after the effects of childbirth I had a few years earlier. It was nice to be operated on in an environment that is not depressing and with staff/surgeons who are committed.

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for abnormally increased sweat production that exceeds the body’s need for temperature regulation. Clinically, a distinction is made between primary hyperhidrosis (which is hereditary and often localised to specific areas) and secondary hyperhidrosis (which is caused by an underlying medical condition or medication). The condition involves the body’s eccrine sweat glands, which overreact to nerve signals. An effective medical treatment for hyperhidrosis involves local injections of a muscle relaxant into the affected area. This is a well-established medication that works by temporarily blocking the neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) between the nerve ending and the sweat gland. When the signal is blocked, the sweat gland stops producing sweat, resulting in a highly effective and targeted treatment for excessive sweating that requires no surgery whatsoever.

Our methods for different areas of treatment

Hyperhidrosis can be generalised or localised. We tailor the treatment to the areas where your excessive sweating is most pronounced.

Axillary hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating)

The most common form of treatment. The medicine is injected superficially into the armpits, which very effectively stops underarm sweating and eliminates unpleasant odours.

Facial sweat and the scalp

Excessive sweating on the face at the slightest exertion is a common clinical problem. We can administer microdoses into the forehead, upper lip or hairline to effectively reduce facial sweating.

Gentle technology and medical precision

Injecting muscle relaxants to treat excessive sweating, particularly in the hands and face, requires considerable clinical experience. Our specialists use microscopically thin needles and precise doses to target only the sweat glands in the middle layer of the skin (the dermis), without affecting the underlying muscles. This ensures a gentle and safe treatment.

A clinic full of expertise

Performing advanced injections to treat underarm sweating places high demands on the treating specialist’s understanding of anatomy. At The Faculty, you will meet specialists with extensive clinical experience. For us, your medical safety is always our top priority, and all treatment is carried out under strict, sterile conditions. We follow well-established medical protocols to ensure the highest level of safety for you as a patient.

In a treatment for underarm sweating, a muscle relaxant is injected just under the skin to block the nerve signals to the sweat glands. This effectively reduces or stops excessive sweating in the treated area.

Pre-treatment consultation

A successful clinical outcome always begins with a thorough consultation. Our specialists will diagnose hyperhidrosis based on your symptoms. It is important to rule out secondary hyperhidrosis; for example, if you sweat at night (nocturnal sweats) or sweat all over your body, this may be a symptom of an underlying condition that should be investigated by a GP first.

After the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least 48 hours (which applies to aesthetic injection treatments) to allow you to decide in your own time whether you wish to give your consent.

The Evolution of You

How does the treatment work?
Step by step

To ensure the highest standards of medical care, we follow a carefully designed clinical process for sweat treatment.

Preparations

Preparing for a safe operation

The area is thoroughly disinfected with chlorhexidine. Anaesthesia is rarely required in the armpits.

The treatment

Safe care at the clinic

The practitioner uses a microscopically thin needle to inject small, superficial doses of the medication at intervals of approximately 1–2 centimetres across the entire sweating area.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

You can resume your normal daily activities straight away, but you should avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths and saunas for the first 48 hours to allow the medication time to bind to the nerve endings. You should avoid using deodorant for the first 24 hours.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

If necessary, we offer a follow-up appointment after 14 days to ensure that sweating has stopped across the entire treated area.

Results following treatment

The clinical results of injection treatment for hyperhidrosis are very good. You will notice a gradual reduction in sweat production within 3 to 7 days, and the maximum effect is usually achieved after two weeks. The duration of the effect varies depending on the treatment area and your individual metabolism, but on average, the effect in the underarms lasts for around 6 to 9 months.

Our specialists in injections

At The Faculty, we prioritise medical expertise above all else. All hyperhidrosis treatments are carried out exclusively by registered doctors and registered injection nurses with extensive clinical experience. Injecting medication for hyperhidrosis requires great precision to ensure that only the sweat glands are affected and that the surrounding nerves and muscles remain intact.

Who can undergo the treatment?

To undergo the treatment, you must be over 18 years of age. We therefore do not treat hyperhidrosis in children or teenagers under the age of 18. You must be in good general health and must not be pregnant or breastfeeding. We only treat patients with primary hyperhidrosis; conditions caused by general medical illnesses must be investigated and managed by the public healthcare system.

Complications and risks

Muscle-relaxing treatment for excessive sweating is generally very safe and well-established. Temporary side effects include minor bruising or slight tenderness at the injection site. Some patients experience what is known as compensatory sweating (where they temporarily sweat slightly more in another part of the body), but this is uncommon in the treatment of primary hyperhidrosis. Our expertise strictly minimises all these risks.

Other treatments for profile balancing

In addition to medical treatments for hyperhidrosis, The Faculty offers a comprehensive range of aesthetic injection treatments and plastic surgery. Whether you are seeking help for dynamic facial wrinkles, facial contouring with fillers or a surgical procedure, our qualified specialists and surgeons are ready to provide an objective assessment based on your unique anatomical characteristics.

Why consider treatment for underarm sweating?

Living with excessive underarm sweating can feel restrictive in everyday life, both personally and professionally. Many people have long tried to manage the condition by adapting their choice of clothing or using strong antiperspirants, which often leads to skin irritation without providing a long-term solution. Such external measures usually only provide temporary relief from the symptoms. To achieve a more lasting difference, many opt for a medical injection treatment. By gently injecting muscle relaxants, the nerve signals to the sweat glands are blocked locally, which curbs overproduction directly at the source.

Frequently asked questions about the treatment of hyperhidrosis

Here we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions and answers about the treatment of hyperhidrosis

What causes excessive underarm sweating?

Primary hyperhidrosis is largely hereditary and is caused by the nerves that control the eccrine sweat glands sending overactive signals, even though the body does not need to cool down. It is often triggered by stress or heat, but can also occur at complete rest.

How can you stop sweating under your arms?

Topical treatments such as antiperspirants or iontophoresis rarely help with severe symptoms. Muscle relaxant injections are currently the most effective non-surgical treatment for actually deactivating the sweat glands and eliminating underarm sweating for a prolonged period.

Is there a treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)?

In the public healthcare system, anticholinergic tablets (medicines such as Ditropan) are sometimes used to treat generalised hyperhidrosis. However, these affect the whole body and often cause severe systemic side effects, such as extreme dry mouth. At The Faculty, we work exclusively with local muscle-relaxing injections to target the treatment precisely where the problem lies, without affecting the rest of the body.

Can sweat glands be surgically removed?

In the past, operations were carried out in which the sympathetic nerves in the chest were cauterised to stop sweaty palms, but due to the risk of severe compensatory sweating (anhidrosis in one area and excessive sweating in another), this is now very rare. The method is reversible, extremely safe and gentle compared with surgery.
