What does a Sofwave treatment involve?

Sofwave is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment designed to lift and tighten the skin. The device uses a unique form of high-frequency, parallel ultrasound (SUPERB™ technology) to generate precise heat in the middle layer of the skin. This controlled heating triggers the body’s natural healing process and stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, which in turn leads to a gradual and natural tightening of the tissue.

Our ultrasound skin tightening treatments

We use only scientifically proven techniques. Sofwave represents a modern milestone in high-tech skincare and is our primary method for non-surgical skin tightening.

Sofwave (Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam)

Unlike older ultrasound technologies, this machine delivers thermal energy in a cylindrical and parallel manner to the middle layer of the skin (the dermis). This targeted heating triggers a powerful regeneration of collagen and elastin, which are crucial for the skin’s shape and elasticity. The method is clinically proven for treating the face, jawline, neck and décolletage.

Gentle approach

A fundamental principle of our skin-tightening treatments is a deep respect for the anatomy of the face and neck. The Sofwave technology utilises an integrated cooling system (Sofcool™) that actively protects the outer layer of skin (the epidermis) throughout the procedure. By delivering energy with precise accuracy deep into the tissue, unnecessary thermal impact on the skin’s surface is avoided. This methodical and medically grounded approach is absolutely crucial – it makes the treatment gentler, minimises recovery time and ensures that stimulation occurs precisely in the underlying layers where it provides the greatest anatomical benefit for lasting firmness.

The Evolution of You

Sofwave treatment
Step by step

We have a structured and reliable process, from your initial consultation right through to the final follow-up, so that you always know what to expect.

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

You’ll start by meeting our qualified skin specialist. We’ll analyse the current condition of your skin, go through your health declaration and ensure that this particular ultrasound technique is the most suitable method for your anatomy.

Before your treatment

Preparations for safe treatment

No extensive preparation is required. However, to ensure your skin is as calm as possible, we recommend that you stop using potent skincare products, such as acids or retinol, for a couple of days before your booked appointment.

The day of treatment

Safe care at the clinic

We clean the treatment area thoroughly. As the heat generated in the skin can feel intense, we usually start by applying a topical anaesthetic cream. We then apply a contact gel and systematically move the machine’s handpiece across the skin to deliver the energy with precision.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

There is essentially no recovery time with this method, which means you can return to work straight away. However, for the first few days, you should avoid strenuous physical activity and extreme heat, such as saunas. Always protect the treated area with a high SPF sunscreen when outdoors.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

As it takes time for the new collagen network to form within the skin, we will schedule a follow-up appointment in approximately three to six months. It is only then that we can objectively assess the skin’s new structure and the actual results.

Results of Sofwave treatment

Skin tightening using modern ultrasound technology is a physiological process that relies entirely on the body’s own ability to produce new collagen. You may sometimes notice a slight firming effect immediately after the treatment, but the real and lasting skin tightening occurs deep within the tissue over time. The final result develops gradually and is most clearly visible after three to six months. As the effect is determined by your individual biology and skin quality, the outcome is always unique. Ultrasound provides a gentle and natural enhancement of the skin’s structure, but does not recreate the extensive tightening achieved by a surgical facelift. During your consultation, we will provide an honest and objective assessment of the results that are anatomically possible for you specifically.

Our specialists

At The Faculty, we have built a close-knit team of qualified nurses and skincare therapists with cutting-edge expertise in medical skincare and machine-based treatments. Delivering advanced ultrasound energy requires more than just the right equipment – it requires an exceptional feel for the body’s tissue layers. Their in-depth understanding of anatomy is the single most important factor in ensuring your safety.

Who is eligible for ultrasound treatment?

This procedure is ideal for anyone over the age of 18 who is in good health and has begun to notice a slight to moderate loss of the skin’s natural firmness. A thorough medical assessment is carried out first to determine whether the procedure is suitable. If there is a significant excess of skin, or if you have certain autoimmune diseases or active infections, we may need to advise against the treatment. As an extra precaution, we do not treat pregnant or breastfeeding patients.

Risks and complications

No advanced skin treatment is entirely risk-free, although specific risks associated with Sofwave are generally very few. The most common and physiologically normal reactions include temporary redness, mild swelling and some tenderness in the tissue. Significantly rarer complications may include superficial heat rash or a temporary sensation of numbness if a superficial nerve has been affected. The specialist’s expertise, combined with the machine’s built-in safety mechanisms, are the primary factors in preventing and minimising these risks.

Other treatments

We offer a wide and comprehensive range of aesthetic treatments. For patients seeking hydration and improved skin texture from within, injectable treatments such as Profhilo or Skinbooster can be a highly valuable addition. If the initial condition is a marked loss of elasticity that does not respond sufficiently to skincare treatments, our plastic surgeons can advise you on the benefits of a traditional surgical face or neck lift.

Why consider a Sofwave treatment?

The reasons for opting for a non-surgical skin tightening treatment are entirely personal. Many choose Sofwave because they wish to stimulate the skin’s own collagen production, often to restore firmness around the jawline or neck when the skin’s natural elasticity has diminished. Others want to provide their face with preventative, structural support without the recovery period required by a surgical procedure. Whatever drives your decision, we work on the basis of an objective analysis of your skin quality. Our focus is on developing a bespoke plan based specifically on your anatomical characteristics.

Frequently asked questions about Sofwave

Frequently asked questions and answers about Sofwave and ultrasound treatments

What is the actual difference between Sofwave and traditional HIFU?

Both techniques use ultrasound to tighten the skin, but they do so at different depths within the tissue. Traditional HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) and Ultherapy deliver energy in the form of small, deep focal points (often down to 3.0 or 4.5 millimetres). Sofwave uses a newer technology called SUPERB™, which instead distributes the heat across seven parallel cylinders at a precise depth of 1.5 millimetres in the dermis. This allows Sofwave to stimulate the maximum amount of collagen in a very even and consistent manner, whilst eliminating the risk of damaging deeper structures.

How painful is a Sofwave treatment, really?

We aim to be completely transparent: the heat generated by the ultrasound can feel intense. Many people describe it as short, powerful pulses of heat deep within the skin. To make your experience as manageable and comfortable as possible, we always apply a strong, medical-grade anaesthetic cream approximately 30–45 minutes before starting. The machine is also equipped with Sofcool™, an integrated cooling mechanism that cools the skin’s surface precisely at the same time as heat is delivered deep down.

Is there a risk that I might lose volume or fat in my face as a result of the treatment?

No. A common concern regarding ultrasound treatments (such as deep HIFU) for older generations has been the risk that the heat might reach the subcutaneous fat layer and cause unwanted volume loss. As Sofwave is extremely precise and delivers its energy at a depth of just 1.5 millimetres into the skin, the underlying fat layer and nerves remain completely unaffected. The result is simply skin tightening, with no impact on your facial volume.

When can I expect to see the finished result?

It is important to understand that the treatment triggers a biological healing process. Sometimes patients experience a slight ‘tightening’ of the skin immediately afterwards, as existing collagen fibres contract due to the heat. However, the actual effect (the formation of new collagen, known as neocollagenesis) takes time. You will often start to see a clearer improvement in firmness after four to six weeks, but the final and most noticeable results only become apparent after three to six months.

How long does the effect last, and will I need to have it done again?

The new collagen network produced by your body is permanent and provides a lasting structural improvement. However, as your skin continues its natural, chronological ageing process over time, we recommend that you view the treatment as part of a long-term skincare routine. To maintain optimal firmness and prevent future sagging, most patients choose to have a maintenance treatment every 12 to 18 months.

Can I exercise straight after my treatment?

We strongly recommend that you refrain from any strenuous or intense physical exercise for the first 24 to 48 hours. The ultrasound creates a controlled inflammatory response in the skin (which is exactly what we want to achieve in order to build collagen). If you exercise vigorously, you will further increase your body temperature and blood circulation, which can lead to unnecessary and severe swelling in the treated area.

How much does it cost to treat different areas?

The cost is based on the time and amount of energy (pulses) required for the specific area. At The Faculty, the price for a full face and neck treatment is SEK 25,000. If you wish to focus solely on the jawline and neck, the price is SEK 18,000. During your initial consultation, we will assess your anatomy and provide you with an exact and binding quote before you give your consent.
