What does a Sculptra treatment involve?

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator whose active ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Instead of physically ‘filling out’ the tissue with a gel, as a traditional filler does, Sculptra works by triggering a natural inflammatory process. This process stimulates the body’s own cells (fibroblasts) to increase their production of collagen, which restores the skin’s elasticity, thickness and volume from the inside out over time.

Our methods for volume enhancement and collagen stimulation

We use advanced, scientifically proven methods to restore volume and tissue structure. Your practitioner will carefully assess whether a biostimulator is the most suitable option for you.

Sculptra for the face and décolletage

Sculptra is an advanced collagen booster based on poly-L-lactic acid. It is injected deep into the tissue to gradually restore lost volume in the cheeks and jawline, or to smooth out the skin texture on the neck and chest in the long term.

Gentle methods

Whether the aim is a facial treatment to improve skin texture or body contouring using fillers in the buttocks, our injection specialists use refined techniques that minimise the strain on the tissue. By using microscopically thin needles or blunt cannulas, we work very gently. A meticulous approach is crucial to reducing bleeding, minimising swelling and ensuring that the gel is integrated safely and naturally into the correct tissue layer.

Pre-treatment consultation

The first step is a consultation with one of our injection specialists, either online or in person at the clinic. During the consultation, you will receive medical information about the treatments, any potential risks and an analysis of your skin condition. We will then provide you with a personalised treatment plan.

After the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least 48 hours (which applies to aesthetic injection treatments) to allow you to decide in your own time whether you wish to give your consent.

The Evolution of You

Sculptra
Step by step

We follow a rigorous medical protocol for all our injection treatments to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety for you as a patient.

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

We assess your anatomical characteristics, discuss volume (for example, when treating hip dips or the face) and go through your health declaration in detail.

Preparations

Preparing for a safe operation

Please stop taking any blood-thinning supplements (such as Omega-3) a few days beforehand to reduce the risk of bruising. Before the treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with chlorhexidine.

The treatment

Safe care at the clinic

The product is injected into the correct layer of tissue, often using a blunt-tipped needle to minimise the number of injections and protect superficial blood vessels. For body treatments (Sculptra Body), the injection depth is adjusted entirely according to the structure of the fatty tissue.

After treatment

Awakening and initial rest

The treated area may feel slightly tight due to the sterile water with which the biostimulator has been mixed. However, this initial swelling caused by the fluid is absorbed by the body within the next few days.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

As collagen production takes time, we’ll book a follow-up appointment in a couple of months to assess the tissue structure and determine whether another session is needed to achieve your goal.

Results following treatment

The results of poly-L-lactic acid are gradual. This means that the long-term volume is not built up immediately by the gel itself, but by your body gradually producing its own new collagen. You may start to see an improvement in texture after around 4 to 6 weeks, but the full and final result usually becomes apparent after 6 months. The effect is long-lasting and can last for over two years. For a more extensive treatment (Sculptra buttocks before and after), several sessions are often required to build up the desired shape gradually.

Our specialists in injections

At The Faculty, you will be looked after by a team of qualified experts with extensive training in advanced anatomy. Working with biostimulators on the face and body requires an in-depth understanding of tissue layers, the body’s immune response and the structure of collagen, which is central to your medical safety.

Who can undergo the treatment?

To undergo the procedure, you must be over 18 years of age and in good general health. A biostimulator is suitable for patients with a healthy immune system who wish to restore lost volume over the long term. For medical reasons, we never treat patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who have certain active autoimmune diseases that may negatively affect collagen production. An individual assessment is always carried out during your consultation.

Complications and risks

All cosmetic injections carry risks (Sculptra side effects). The most common are harmless and include temporary redness, swelling and bruising. A specific risk associated with the use of lactic acid-based biostimulators is that small, often invisible but palpable lumps (nodules) may form under the skin if the product is not evenly distributed. This risk is greatly minimised by our high level of technical expertise, correct dilution of the product and your own.

Other treatments for profile and texture

If you are looking for immediate volume enhancement in the face or on the body, a traditional hyaluronic acid filler may be a suitable option. For more long-lasting and comprehensive body contouring, our plastic surgery specialists also offer fat transfer, a surgical procedure that uses your own body’s fat to restore volume.

Why have a Sculptra treatment?

The reasons for seeking a tissue-stimulating injection treatment are highly personal. Many people wish to gradually restore the structure of their face as the skin’s own collagen production declines with age. Others seek a specific neck and décolletage treatment, or wish to sculpt the body’s contours – for example, through a non-surgical buttock lift to fill in hip dips or add volume to the shape of the buttocks. Whether it concerns the face or the body, we listen to your expectations to create an anatomically grounded treatment plan.

Frequently asked questions about Sculptra and body fillers

Here we have compiled some frequently asked questions about Sculptra and body fillers

How much does a course of Sculptra treatment cost?

Prices start at SEK 8,000 per session for the face or neck. For body treatments (such as buttock fillers or Sculptra for the buttocks), a larger volume is usually required, and you will receive a precise quote following a clinical consultation.

What is the difference between traditional fillers and a biostimulator?

A traditional filler provides immediate volume by injecting a hyaluronic acid gel under the skin. A biostimulator provides minimal immediate volume, but instead stimulates your own body to gradually produce new collagen over a period of several months.

How soon will I see results?

As Sculptra is usually injected using a blunt cannula, fewer punctures are required, which many patients find gentler than traditional needle injections. If required, we are of course happy to apply a topical anaesthetic cream before we begin.

How long do the effects of a Sculptra treatment last?

Poly-L-lactic acid delivers long-lasting results. Once the treatment course is complete and collagen production has been fully stimulated, many people find that the effects last for over two years, which is considerably longer than with traditional fillers.
