A subtle colour-matching of the scar tissue, or more extensive pigmentation of the entire areola, is applied to the surface of the skin to reduce the visibility of the scar and create a more even tone.
Gentle approach
The skin on the face, particularly around the eyes and lips, is extremely thin. A cornerstone of our practice is that we work exclusively on the skin’s outermost layer (the upper dermis). Whether we use a manual tool or a mechanical technique, the touch is as light as a feather. This clinical and precise approach minimises swelling, prevents the pigment from spreading (migrating) into the surrounding tissue, and ensures that your colour fades gently and evenly over time.

Medical assessment and choice of method
You will meet with your medical pigmentation specialist. Based on your individual anatomy, we will carefully sketch out the treatment area directly onto your skin. We will prepare a pigment mixture that matches your natural skin tone, and you will always be asked to approve the plan before we proceed.
Before your treatment
Preparations for safe treatment
To minimise the risk of bleeding, you must not drink alcohol or take blood-thinning medication for 24 hours beforehand. Before an eyeliner tattoo, you must remove any false eyelashes, and before a lip tattoo, preventive medication is recommended if you are prone to cold sores.
The day of treatment
Safe care at the clinic
The skin is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. We apply a highly effective topical anaesthetic cream to the area a short while before the procedure begins, which makes the treatment very comfortable.
Recovery & healing
Self-care and convalescence guidelines
Superficial healing usually takes 7 to 14 days. The area will darken and flake. Your aftercare is important: you must keep the area clean, and you must not under any circumstances scratch the scabs, use a sauna, bathe in chlorinated water, sweat heavily or apply make-up to the area during the healing phase. The area should also be treated with a light, emollient antiseptic cream for the first 7 days.
Monitoring & results
Medical check-up and final assessment
The skin naturally sheds between 30 and 50 per cent of the pigment initially. That is why we schedule a follow-up appointment after around 3–6 weeks. At that point, we replenish the lost pigment and fine-tune the shade to achieve the perfect final result.

Who can undergo the treatment?
The procedure is intended for healthy individuals over the age of 18 who wish to enhance their facial features. During your consultation, we will carry out a clinical assessment to determine whether your skin is suitable. If you have very oily skin, certain techniques (such as microblading) may need to be replaced with machine shading. We do not perform treatments on areas with active eczema, psoriasis, active acne or herpes outbreaks. If you suffer from autoimmune diseases or severe scarring, a special assessment will be carried out. We never treat pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Does it hurt to have permanent make-up tattooed onto your face?
As we work on sensitive areas (particularly the eyes and lips), we always apply a highly effective topical anaesthetic cream well in advance of starting. The vast majority of patients find the treatment perfectly tolerable, and many describe it simply as a vibrating tickle or a slight scraping sensation.
How long does the recovery process take, and will I need to take time off work?
Superficial healing takes around 7 to 14 days. During this period, the colour will darken and the skin will flake. From a purely medical point of view, you do not need to take time off work, but you will need to adjust your routine as you must not apply make-up to the area, sweat heavily or bathe for around two weeks. Some people choose to have the treatment before a weekend due to the initial swelling (particularly around the lips and eyeliner).
Why does my dye look so pale after the flakes have fallen off?
This is often referred to as the ‘milk phase’ or ‘ghosting phase’. Once the dark scabs have fallen off, the pigment is covered by a layer of brand-new, immature skin that is opaque. This makes the colour appear to have faded. During weeks three and four, the new skin becomes transparent again, and your colour "returns" to the surface in a softer shade.
How long does a cosmetic tattoo last?
Generally, eyebrow and lip pigmentation lasts for one to three years, whilst eyeliner can last up to five years. The lifespan depends entirely on your biology – oily skin breaks down the pigment faster than dry skin. External factors such as sun exposure (UV light) and strong skincare products also affect how quickly the colour fades.
What is the difference between cosmetic tattooing and a standard body tattoo?
The difference lies in the depth and the composition of the pigment. A body tattoo involves injecting coarse ink very deep into the skin so that it lasts a lifetime. Cosmetic tattooing, on the other hand, involves applying finely ground pigment very close to the surface. This is done deliberately so that the colour can be adapted, adjusted and fade beautifully as your face ages and changes.
Can I have cosmetic eyebrow tattooing if I have an old tattoo from another clinic?
It depends on how much ink is left and the shape of the old tattoo. If the pigment is very light and faded, we can often correct and cover it up (cover-up). We recommend booking a consultation so that we can assess how we can help you.
What are the key things I need to consider before getting cosmetic eyeliner or lip tattooing?
Before eyeliner treatment: You must stop using any eyelash serums for at least four weeks beforehand, and any eyelash extensions must be removed. Before lip treatment: If you have ever had a cold sore, you should take preventive anti-herpes medication before your appointment. For all treatments, you must not consume alcohol or blood-thinning medication (such as paracetamol) in the 24 hours prior, as this causes bleeding which pushes the pigment out.
