What does cosmetic surgery involve?

Body surgery is a collective term for aesthetic and reconstructive procedures performed on the body’s soft tissues and contours. The procedures aim to remove excess skin, reduce localised fat deposits or redistribute tissue to alter the body’s proportions.

These procedures are carried out to shape the body’s contours in line with your individual physiology. The final anatomical result is largely determined by your skin’s natural elasticity and how the tissue heals.

Our range includes a variety of bespoke procedures for different parts of the body. For the abdomen, we offer full or mini tummy tucks, and for the arms and legs, we perform arm lifts and thigh lifts to remove excess skin. Areas with localised fat deposits can be treated with liposuction or back contouring, whilst buttock surgery such as the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or buttock lift focuses on shaping the buttocks using the body’s own fat via fat transfer or implants.
For patients who have been through pregnancy or significant weight loss, a mommy makeover can combine several procedures, such as a tummy tuck and breast surgery, under a single anaesthetic session. We also offer male plastic surgery, such as gynaecomastia surgery to correct enlarged breast tissue in men. Each treatment plan is based on a thorough clinical analysis of your anatomy.

Why have cosmetic surgery?

The reasons for undergoing cosmetic surgery are entirely personal. Many patients choose to have the procedure for their own well-being, for example when excess skin following significant weight loss causes physical discomfort or skin chafing. The motivation is always personal and is about achieving anatomical balance. We draw up a tailored plan based on your body’s specific circumstances.

Risks of body surgery

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks involved. These may include general surgical risks such as bleeding, infection, fluid collection (seroma), or uneven healing. Specific risks are tailored to the chosen method, such as changes in sensation in the skin area. During your consultation, the surgeon will thoroughly review all potential risks, as well as how we at The Faculty work medically and preventively to minimize them.

Consultation on plastic surgery

The first step is a personal consultation with a plastic surgery specialist, either at our clinic in Stockholm or via a video call. We will carry out a thorough clinical examination, review your medical history and discuss which procedures are suitable for your body.

You will be given factual information about the surgical procedure, post-operative care and medical risks. After the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least seven days to decide, at your leisure, whether you wish to give your consent.

How much does body surgery cost?

The price for body surgery is based on which method is applied and whether any combination procedures are planned. During your surgical consultation, you will always receive a clear and transparent price quote.

Frequently Asked Questions About Body Surgery

Here, we have gathered frequently asked questions and answers regarding body surgery.

How much does body surgery cost?

The cost varies entirely depending on which procedure or combination of procedures is performed. You will always receive an exact price following a clinical assessment during your surgical consultation.

Will it hurt after the operation?

The pain experience is individual, but most people experience soreness and a tight sensation in the tissue for the first few days. You will be prescribed pain relief medication to facilitate your recovery.

What are the signs of infection after body surgery?

You should be attentive to symptoms such as redness, increasing swelling, fever, or a significantly increased pain. Contact the clinic immediately if you experience any of these during your healing process.

What is the difference between liposuction and skin removal?

Liposuction only removes fat cells and requires good skin elasticity. If there is significant excess skin, surgical removal of the skin (such as in an abdominoplasty or arm lift) is required to tighten the area.

How long does it take to recover?

A return to non-physical work often occurs after two to three weeks. Physical exercise and activities that increase your heart rate should be avoided entirely during the first four to six weeks to avoid disturbing the healing process.

Do you need to wear a compression garment afterwards?

Yes, for most body surgery procedures, a custom binder or compression garment is worn around the clock for three weeks, and thereafter during the daytime for an additional three weeks to reduce swelling.
