Pre-operative consultation for arm lift surgery
The first step is a consultation with a plastic surgery specialist, either online or at the clinic. We will assess your suitability and discuss any risks as well as the expected results. You will receive a personalised treatment plan. Following the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least seven days to consider the information at your leisure before giving your consent to the procedure.
You will receive a specific treatment proposal based on your body. After the appointment, you will have a statutory reflection period of at least 7 days to decide in peace and quiet whether you want to give your consent.

You will meet with a plastic surgery specialist for a thorough clinical examination of your upper arms. Together, you will discuss your wishes and circumstances and assess whether arm liposuction, traditional arm lift surgery or a combined approach is the most suitable option for achieving a balanced result. You will be provided with full information regarding risks and costs.
Before your procedure
Preparing for a safe operation
Once your statutory cooling-off period has passed and you have given your consent, your operation will be scheduled. You will receive detailed instructions from our coordinator. It is absolutely essential that you refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol for at least four weeks prior to the procedure. The evening before and on the morning of the operation, you should shower thoroughly using an antibacterial soap.
The day of the operation
Safe care at the clinic
At the clinic, you will be looked after, get changed and meet your plastic surgeon and anaesthetist for final planning and photographs. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia for your safety and usually takes between one and two hours, depending on whether it involves skin removal alone or whether liposuction of the upper arms is performed at the same time.
After the operation
Awakening and initial rest
You will wake up in our specialist recovery ward, where we will monitor your initial recovery. It is perfectly normal to experience swelling, tightness and tenderness in your arms during the first 24 hours. You will be given tailored pain relief to manage this discomfort and will be discharged once our doctors assess that your condition is stable.

Self-care and convalescence guidelines
The first few weeks at home require plenty of rest, and you must avoid heavy lifting and activities that raise your heart rate. You should wear a custom-made compression bandage around the clock to reduce swelling and support the tissue. Careful taping of your arm plastic surgery scars is crucial during the first few months to optimise the skin’s healing process.
Monitoring & results
Medical check-up and final assessment
After about a week, you will see a nurse at our clinic for an initial wound check and, if necessary, to have your stitches removed. After around six months, you will be booked in for a final follow-up appointment with your specialist surgeon to assess the final anatomical result and take a final photograph of your surgical areas.

Who is eligible for arm lift surgery?
To undergo surgery, you must be over 18 years of age and in good general health. During the consultation, we will carry out an individual assessment of your physical condition. If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, we recommend that your weight has been stable for at least six months before planning an arm lift.

How much does arm lift surgery cost?

How visible will the scars from my arm lift be?
As the skin is removed surgically, a permanent scar will remain on the inside or back of the upper arm. Initially, it will be red and prominent, but with the right aftercare and careful taping, it will fade over time.
Can you have arm surgery through the county council?
It is very rare to have arm reconstruction surgery funded by the county council (the region), and this requires strict medical criteria to be met, such as significant functional difficulties or recurrent skin conditions following significant weight loss. The Faculty is a fully private clinic and does not accept referrals from the region.
What is the difference between arm lift surgery and arm liposuction?
Arm lift surgery primarily addresses excess skin (sagging skin) by surgically removing tissue. Liposuction of the upper arms only removes localised fat deposits and requires your skin to have sufficient elasticity to tighten up afterwards.
What is the recovery process like after an upper arm lift?
Most people can return to sedentary work after two to three weeks. You will need to wear a compression bandage around the clock at first and avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for at least four to six weeks.
What are the signs of complications following arm liposuction?
You should keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms, such as rapidly increasing swelling on one side, a persistent fever, severe redness or increasing pain that does not subside with pain relief. Always contact the clinic immediately if this occurs.
How long do I need to wear compression garments after arm lift surgery?
Following an upper arm lift, it is essential to wear a specially fitted compression garment (known as a bolero or sleeves) around the clock for the first 4–6 weeks. Compression is absolutely essential for reducing swelling, providing support to the newly tightened skin and relieving pressure on the arm lift scars so that they heal as well as possible. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on how long you need to wear the garment, based on the extent of the procedure and your skin elasticity.
