Risks of breast surgery
As with all surgical procedures, the operation carries medical risks. General risks include infection, bleeding, hematoma, and temporary changes in skin and nipple sensation. Specific risks vary depending on the procedure; with implants, there is a risk of capsular contracture, whereas with fat grafting, there is a risk that a portion of the transplanted fat may not survive. The first step is a personal consultation with a plastic surgery specialist, either online or at our clinic in Stockholm. We carry out a thorough clinical examination of your chest, review your health declaration and provide factual information about surgical techniques, post-operative care and potential risks.
After the meeting, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least seven days to consider the information at your leisure before giving your consent.

Does it hurt after breast surgery?
Most people experience soreness, swelling, and a tight sensation in the operated area during the first few days. You will be prescribed regular pain relief medication to facilitate your recovery.
What are the signs of infection following breast augmentation?
Be alert to symptoms such as localized redness, increasing swelling, localized warmth, fever, or a sudden increase in pain. If any of these occur, you should contact the clinic immediately.
How long do you need to wear a support bra after surgery?
Typically, a supportive sport bra is worn around the clock for the first three weeks, followed by daytime wear for an additional three weeks. Underwire bras should be avoided for the first three months.
How long does the recovery take?
Most people can return to non-physical work after two to three weeks. Exercise, heavy lifting, and high-intensity activities should be avoided during the first four weeks.
Can you breastfeed after breast surgery?
The ability to breastfeed may in some cases be affected depending on the surgical technique and incision placement used, particularly if the milk ducts are severed. Your surgeon will explain how this impacts your specific chosen procedure.
