What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves staying in a pressurised chamber while breathing oxygen under medically controlled conditions. The increased pressure allows oxygen to dissolve in the blood plasma, thereby increasing oxygen availability to the body's tissues.
The method has long been used in healthcare and in recent years has also attracted attention in areas such as recovery and longevity. At The Faculty, HBOT is offered as part of a holistic programme focusing on recovery, wellbeing and long-term health - but also as a powerful support for the body's healing processes in connection with surgery.
Why choose HBOT? Longevity & Performance
More and more people are seeking proactive approaches to support their health over time. HBOT is currently used by people who want to work on recovery, performance and general well-being in a controlled environment. It is also used to optimise the body's conditions before and after surgery.
The treatment is used in a supportive context:
- Increased oxygen supply to body tissues
- The body's own recovery mechanisms and wound healing
- Structured programmes for longevity and performance
- Recovery from high physical or mental stress
Many elite athletes, performance-oriented individuals and post-operative patients include HBOT as an integral part of their recovery routine.
HBOT treatment at The Faculty
At The Faculty, HBOT is offered in a modern and medically supervised environment. Treatment is individually tailored and can be integrated into a personalised programme for those who want to invest in long-term health, recovery and well-being.
Before your first treatment, you will undergo a health declaration to ensure that you have no contraindications (such as untreated pneumothorax or certain ear problems). Our pressure chamber in Stockholm is state-of-the-art ("hard shell") to ensure both safety and maximum effect of the treatment.
HBTO - Pressurised chamber in Stockholm
At The Faculty in Stockholm, we exclusively use hard shell pressure chambers. Unlike simpler, soft models often used in home environments, our chambers can operate at higher and more stable pressure levels, up to 2.0 ATA.
This technical standard is consistent with the equipment commonly used in established clinical HBOT settings. Each treatment is carried out under professional supervision with a focus on safety, quality and comfort.
Step by step
HBOT in a pressure chamber is a structured treatment to optimise oxygenation and recovery. We follow a clear process with guidance at every step.
01.
Consultation & Briefing
Before your first session, we'll go over your health history and your goals for treatment - be it longevity, rehabilitation or general wellbeing. We'll explain how the pressure chamber works so you feel completely at ease.
02.
Preparation for HBOT treatment
When you arrive at the clinic, you will be greeted by our team. You don't need to make any special preparations before your visit, you can come as you are in your normal clothes. We will start by going over the treatment again so that you feel completely comfortable with the process.
03.
Start of pressurisation
You sit comfortably in our spacious pressure chamber while the treatment begins. The pressure increases gradually and is experienced by most people as similar to the sensation of taking off or landing by plane, with a temporary lid for the ears that can be depressurised by swallowing or holding the nose.
However, sensitivity to pressure changes varies from person to person. If the pressure equalisation process feels more strenuous, the pressure increase can be paused at any time and carried out in stages, so that the treatment is carried out at a calm and comfortable pace.
04.
During the treatment
Once the target pressure is reached (e.g. 2.0 ATA), you breathe in 95% oxygen via a mask. Now you can relax, meditate or sleep.
05.
Termination & Decompression
Towards the end of the session, the pressure is gradually reduced back to normal. Staff are available at all times via the communication system.
06.
After treatment
Most people feel relaxed and clear-headed immediately afterwards. You can return to your everyday life immediately. For optimal anti-ageing and longevity effects, we often recommend a course of several sessions.

More about pressure chambers and HBOT
There are several aspects to consider before starting a pressure chamber treatment. You need to think about your specific health goals. It is also important that you understand how the process works and what effects you can expect from hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).
How much does a treatment in a pressurised chamber cost?
The price of an HBOT session varies depending on whether you book a single treatment or a longevity package. See our [price list] for current package prices.
Is it dangerous to be in a pressurised chamber?
No, HBOT is a very safe and well-documented treatment when performed in a professional setting with certified equipment. Some fatigue may occur afterwards, which is a sign that the body is working on recovery.
How many times do you need to go to see results?
For acute damage, a few sessions may be enough. For long-term effects in anti-ageing and stem cell activation, research often recommends series of 10-20 sessions or more.
What is the difference between soft shell and hard shell pressurised chambers?
At The Faculty we use hard shell chambers. These can reach significantly higher pressures (often over 2.0 ATA) compared to soft chambers for home use (often max 1.3 ATA). The higher pressure is essential to achieve the medicinal and regenerative effects.
Can HBOT help with stress and fatigue?
Many clients report improved sleep, reduced stress levels and increased mental clarity. By reducing neuroinflammation, the treatment can support recovery from stress-related disorders.
