The day of treatment

The procedure is carried out under local or general anaesthetic, during which the fat is gently suctioned out. A Belkyra treatment involves several small injections in the area under the chin and takes around 15–20 minutes.
After treatment
Awakening and initial rest
It is quite normal to experience significant swelling (particularly with Belkyra), tenderness and a tight sensation across the neck. Following liposuction, you will wear a special compression bandage (chin strap) for the first few days.

Self-care and convalescence guidelines
Swelling following an injection treatment is at its most severe during the first week. If you have had surgery, you should avoid physical exercise and heavy lifting during the first few weeks to allow the tissue to heal undisturbed.

Who can have their double chin treated at our clinic?

How can you get rid of a double chin quickly?
There are no medical shortcuts that deliver results overnight. Liposuction offers the quickest reduction in anatomical volume, whereas non-surgical methods such as Belkyra take effect gradually over a period of 6 to 8 weeks.
Can you exercise away a double chin?
As it is very difficult to target specific areas of the body for fat loss, facial yoga or general exercise often has very limited effect on a pronounced double chin caused by genetics or stubborn localised fat deposits.
What is the difference between Kybella and Belkyra?
It is exactly the same medicine. The product is marketed under the brand name Kybella in the US and certain other markets, whilst in Europe and Sweden it is sold under the authorised name Belkyra. Both are based on the fat-dissolving substance deoxycholic acid.
How long does the swelling last after a Belkyra injection?
Deliberate and noticeable swelling is a completely normal and expected part of the process as the medication breaks down fat cells. The most intense swelling (Belkyra swelling) usually subsides after one to two weeks, but some tightness and tenderness may persist for longer.
Does it hurt to have a double chin removed?
A surgical procedure (such as liposuction) is always carried out under local or general anaesthetic and is therefore pain-free during the operation itself. Afterwards, as is also the case with injection treatments, most people experience noticeable tenderness and a feeling of tightness in the tissue during the healing period, rather than intense pain.
