Hi, just had a face, neck and nose surgery by Jonas R. Too early to say anything about the end result yet but he is magical in his practice so it can only be the best. I have never been treated so well and taken care of, all the way from the first consultation, surgery planning, reception, the surgery team, the two-night stay. First class VIP feeling right through including the environment which is also TopNotch, private room with TV "sea view" and large veranda/balcony. They have their own chef who prepares wonderful food based on wishes and possible allergens. Room service 24/7 Super professionals the whole team I must say. I will definitely come back here again. Kind regards, AnnaPosted on Google![]()

So professional, nice treatment from start to finish. Dr. Heden inspires great confidence and I received great information after the operation about how it went. The anesthesia and surgical staff were fantastic, I felt so calm and felt safe in their hands. The care in the nursing ward after the operation was top notch, nice, safe and good breakfast🌸+0Posted on Google![]()

World class on-site surgery. A professional clinic with Sweden's most skilled and experienced doctors. I have had surgery at other clinics but have not experienced skill and service at this level. Big thanks to Per Hedén and the rest of the staff.Posted on Google![]()

Modern business where everything is new and except for the staff, they are old in the paperclip, incredibly experienced and in sync from the reception, nurses, nurses, anesthesia staff and surgeons. No questions are stupid, and they have a rock-solid understanding of pain relief. When the breakfast tray arrives after waking up, you become a little religious with happiness.Posted on Google![]()

Nice staff throughout the clinic and good aftercare, responds quickly to emails. Lovely Riikka operated on me after the effects of childbirth I had a few years earlier. It was nice to be operated on in an environment that is not depressing and with staff/surgeons who are committed.
What does a back lift and back liposuction involve?
When the skin loses its elasticity due to ageing or significant weight loss, excess skin and localised fat deposits can form on the upper body. A back lift (often called a bra-line lift) focuses on surgically removing skin folds across the back, usually at the level of the bra strap. If the problem is not the skin itself, but only localised fat deposits, back liposuction is performed instead. Both procedures aim to create a tighter and smoother anatomical contour.
Our techniques for back contouring
To achieve a natural and anatomically sound result, our surgeons use tailored techniques depending on whether your primary requirement is to remove fat, skin, or both.
Liposuction back
A microcannula is inserted through small, discreet incisions to gently suction out fat cells. This method requires that your skin has sufficient elasticity to tighten over the new contour.
Back lift (skin lift)
For patients with a clear excess of skin, a horizontal incision is made across the back, strategically positioned so that it can be concealed beneath a standard bra strap. The skin is tightened and the excess fold of tissue is removed.
Gentle technology and medical precision
Regardless of which surgical method is deemed best suited to your anatomy, our specialists employ refined techniques that minimise tissue trauma. A gentle and precise approach is crucial for reducing bleeding and swelling. This promotes safer healing and is absolutely vital for ensuring that the scars are as discreet as possible.

Consultation before your operation
The first step is a consultation with a plastic surgery specialist. You choose whether you want to book an online appointment or meet us in person at the clinic. During the appointment, you will be given medical information about risks, current waiting times and which techniques are best for you.
You will receive a personalised treatment plan tailored to your body. After the consultation, you will meet with a coordinator to discuss what you need to consider ahead of any surgery, as well as aftercare and waiting times.
Spinal surgery
Step by step
To ensure you feel confident and well prepared, we have a clear and reliable process in place, from your first visit right through to your final follow-up appointment. Here, we provide an overview of how a breast augmentation procedure works with us, from start to finish.
01. Consultation
Medical assessment and choice of method
The surgeon will examine your skin quality and fat deposits to assess whether liposuction alone is sufficient, or whether a back lift is required to address excess skin.
02. Before your procedure
Preparing for a safe operation
Once you have had time to think it over, the operation will be scheduled. It is an absolute, non-negotiable medical requirement that you remain completely smoke-free for four weeks before and after the operation in order to ensure optimal wound healing.
03. The day of the operation
Safe care at the clinic
You will be admitted and prepared on the ward. You will meet your surgeon and anaesthetist to go through everything before it is time to go into the operating theatre. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia to ensure optimal patient safety and comfort, and usually takes between 1.5 and 3 hours.
04. After the operation
Awakening and initial rest
You will be closely monitored in our recovery room. A pressure bandage will be applied evenly across your back. If a large area of skin has been removed, you may need to stay overnight. Afterwards, you will be able to rest and have a snack in the ward. Most people are able to go home the same day.
05. Recovery & healing
Self-care and convalescence guidelines
You should wear your compression garment around the clock to begin with. During the first few weeks, you must avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise so as not to hinder the healing process.
06. Monitoring & results
Medical check-up and final assessment
A follow-up appointment to check the wound and remove any stitches will take place after 1–2 weeks. A final check-up with your surgeon will be booked in six months’ time.
Outcomes following spinal surgery
Recovery following surgery on the body’s soft tissues requires patience. During the first few weeks, the tissue across your back will be swollen and bruising is very common. You will need to wear a specially designed compression garment that helps the skin adhere evenly to the muscles and reduces fluid retention. The final anatomical result can only be medically assessed after six to twelve months, once all internal swelling has completely subsided.
Our specialists in plastic surgery
At The Faculty, hand-picked specialists in plastic surgery with cutting-edge expertise in upper body and back surgery work together. Sculpting the contours of the back and managing long surgical incisions place extreme demands on the surgeon’s technical skill and sense of symmetry to ensure optimal wound healing. This forms the basis of your medical safety and a lasting result.
Who is eligible for back surgery?
To undergo cosmetic surgery with us, you must be at least 18 years old and in good general health. During the consultation, a thorough assessment of your anatomy and weight stability will be carried out. If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, we recommend that your weight has been stable for at least six months before any skin removal surgery is performed. Giving up smoking is an absolute medical requirement, as nicotine impairs blood circulation and significantly increases the risk of healing complications.
Complications and risks
All surgery carries risks, such as bleeding, infection or asymmetrical healing. With upper body surgery, scar healing is often a key concern. As the skin on the back is thick and constantly in motion when we move our arms and shoulders, the scars can sometimes be slightly wider than on other parts of the body. With liposuction, there is a risk of minor skin irregularities. Your surgeon will explain this in detail, along with our safety procedures, during your consultation.
Other body contouring treatments
Following pregnancy or significant weight loss, many patients find that their entire torso needs to be realigned in order to restore its anatomical balance. It is therefore very common to carry out combined procedures. For example, we often perform a tummy tuck and liposuction of the back (tummy tuck combined with liposuction of the flanks and back) in a single operation, sometimes referred to as ‘360-degree contouring’. We always discuss the safest options based on your individual circumstances.

Our practice is guided by a scientific approach and extensive experience, creating a safe and transparent treatment journey.
Payment guarantee and insurance
Choosing to undergo an aesthetic surgical procedure or an injection treatment is a personal decision, and at The Faculty, we value complete transparency by always providing a clear and itemized price quote during your consultation. For your peace of mind, you are covered by comprehensive patient insurance as well as an extended warranty period during the healing process. For those who wish, we also offer financial guidance regarding installment options—as a flexible choice entirely separate from the medical assessment.
Why consider back surgery?
Opting for plastic surgery on the body’s soft tissues is a personal decision. Many of our patients experience chafing or physical discomfort caused by excess skin on the back, particularly during physical activity or when wearing tight-fitting clothing. Others are bothered by localised fat deposits that create bulges (for example, on the flanks or under the shoulder blades). The motivation behind your decision is entirely your own. We listen carefully to your reasons and design a realistic, medically sound treatment plan that respects your body’s physiology.
Frequently asked questions about back contouring and liposuction
Here we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions about back contouring and liposuction
What can be done about excess skin on the back?
If you have significant excess skin on your back following, for example, a gastric bypass, simply removing subcutaneous fat is not enough. In such cases, a full back lift must be performed. The incision is usually made horizontally across the back, at a height where it can easily be concealed by a standard bra strap, after which the excess skin flap and the underlying fatty tissue are surgically removed.
Can I view photos of back liposuction on your website?
Yes, during your consultation, we will show you objective, medical photographs of previous back liposuction procedures. This is an important part of the process, as it enables us to work together to establish realistic expectations regarding how much volume can be safely removed without the skin losing its natural elasticity.
How much does the operation cost (price of back liposuction)?
Many patients search for “free excess skin surgery” or the option of thigh lift surgery funded by the local health authority (thigh lift surgery via the local health authority). The National Health Service only covers the cost of surgery when the excess skin is so severe that it causes serious and documented medical problems, such as chronic fungal infections or mobility issues that cannot be treated in any other way. Purely aesthetic procedures to tighten the thighs are always carried out privately at the patient’s own expense.
Is the procedure carried out under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic?
In the vast majority of cases, both back lift surgery and back liposuction are performed under general anaesthetic. The back is a large area, and to ensure that you, as a patient, are completely pain-free, and to enable the surgeon to work with optimal precision and symmetry across the entire surface, general anaesthesia is the safest and most recommended method.
