If you have a swollen breast gland, a discreet crescent-shaped incision is made at the lower edge of the areola. The firm glandular tissue is then permanently removed through this incision.
Liposuction
If the bulk of the volume consists of fat (lipomastia), microcannulas are inserted through small incisions to gently suction out the fat cells and flatten the chest.

Gynaecomastia or lipomastia: that determines the method
Male breasts can be caused by two different things. Gynecomastia is a benign growth of the breast gland itself and feels like a firm, often rubbery tissue behind the nipple. Lipomastia is an accumulation of fat without an enlarged gland and feels soft. Often, it is a combination of both. During the consultation, the surgeon will examine which applies to you, as this determines how the surgery is performed.
Fat can to some extent be reduced through exercise and weight loss, but an enlarged gland cannot be worked off through training. The gland remains on top of the muscle regardless of how fit you are, which is why many choose to have surgery.
In cases of pure lipomastia, liposuction through incisions of just a few millimeters is often sufficient. If glandular tissue is present, it is removed through an incision along the lower edge of the areola, where the scar follows the natural color transition of the skin and fades during the first year. After the operation, you wear a compression vest 24/7 for three to four weeks. This prevents fluid accumulation and helps the skin adapt to the new contour.
Numbness or hypersensitivity in the nipples is common in the initial period and resolves for the vast majority within six to twelve months.
In everyday language, the term 'chipstuttar' [literally: 'chips boobs'] is sometimes used for male breast enlargement caused by fat. Regardless of what it is called, the assessment and treatment remain the same.

Once you have given your consent, our coordinator will take over. You will receive clear written instructions to abstain from tobacco and alcohol well in advance, as well as guidelines on showering with antibacterial soap and fasting prior to the day of the operation.
The day of the operation
Safe care at the clinic
At the clinic, you will change into a hospital gown and meet your surgeon to mark the surgical site. You will also meet your anaesthetist. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and usually takes between one and two hours.
After the operation
Awakening and initial rest
You will be closely monitored in our recovery room. It is completely normal for the area to be swollen and tender at first. We will ensure you receive the appropriate pain relief before you can go home to rest, usually later the same day.

When can I start exercising after a gynaecomastia operation?

The aim is to leave as few and as invisible traces as possible. With liposuction the incisions are only a few millimetres. If the gland needs to be removed, the incision is placed in the colour transition at the lower part of the areola, which works as a natural camouflage. Scars are red at first and fade during the first year.
How long do I need to wear a compression vest?
Normally around the clock for three to four weeks. The vest prevents fluid build-up and supports the skin as it tightens over the new chest contour. Your surgeon gives you individual advice based on how you heal.
Can I lose sensation in the nipples?
