What does a hand treatment involve?

The ageing of the hands is a natural physiological process, but because they are constantly exposed to external stresses such as UV radiation, chemicals and frequent washing, the skin here often ages more quickly than on the face. A medical injection treatment for the backs of the hands involves gently injecting volume-restoring hyaluronic acid (fillers) or biostimulating preparations under the skin. The aim is to replace the subcutaneous fat tissue lost over time, which provides the skin with internal moisture, mechanical support and a smoother texture that conceals the underlying anatomy.

Our methods for dermal fillers and hand moisturising treatments

To achieve a genuine, sustainable and medically safe result in this sensitive area, the demands placed on materials and technology are extremely high.

Volume-building (Fillers for the hands)

For patients with significant volume loss where tendons and blood vessels are very prominent, a structural hyaluronic acid filler is injected. This is injected deep beneath the skin to act as a soft, cushioning layer and restore the smooth contour of the back of the hand.

Skin-sculpting hydration treatment (Skinboosters)

If the main concern is primarily dry skin and fine lines (extremely wrinkled hands), we can inject a lighter form of hyaluronic acid that is distributed microscopically within the outermost layer of the skin to lock in moisture and stimulate collagen production from within.

Gentle technology and medical precision

The back of the hand has a highly complex network of superficial veins and tendons. We use only blunt-tipped cannulas (microcannulas) when treating hands. Through a single small puncture at the wrist or knuckle, the cannula can glide gently and safely under the skin. This minimises the risk of bleeding and ensures that the product is distributed into exactly the right layer of tissue.

A clinic full of expertise

Administering injections into the back of the hand requires a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the hand’s veins, nerves and tendon sheaths. At The Faculty, your medical safety is always our top priority. Our practice is characterised by clinical expertise, sterile environments and an open, honest dialogue about what the treatment can achieve physiologically. You can feel completely confident that you are being treated to the highest medical standards.

Price of hand fillers

Your exact price will always be determined during your personal consultation, as the amount of product (in millilitres) required to cover the backs of both hands varies depending on the initial condition of your skin and the degree of volume loss.

Pre-treatment consultation

The first step is a consultation with one of our injection specialists. You can choose whether to book a virtual appointment or meet us in person at the clinic. During the appointment, you will receive medical information about risks, current waiting times, and which techniques and volumes are best suited to you. You will receive a specific treatment proposal based on your facial anatomy.

After the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least 48 hours (which applies to aesthetic injection treatments) to allow you to decide in your own time whether you wish to give your consent.

Before and after a tummy tuck

Every body is unique, which means that the results of abdominal liposuction are always individual. During your consultation, we will go through objective reference images to show the breadth of what is anatomically possible. It is important to have realistic expectations, especially as the quality and elasticity of the skin plays a major role. We cannot guarantee a specific outcome, and the images on the website should be seen as illustrations of what our surgical techniques can achieve - not as a promise of exactly the same result.

Belly liposuction

Classic contouring Reduced volume and smoother profile

Patient's goal: A 35-year-old woman who, despite regular exercise, was experiencing a stubborn localised fat deposit on her lower abdomen. She wanted a flatter and smoother abdominal profile that was more in line with the rest of her body

Tummy tuck with VASER

Gentle method with high precision

Surgeon's solution: To maximise precision and ensure a smooth transition to the waist, VASER technology was chosen. The ultrasound-based method allowed the fat to be gently released and removed, which also contributed to a smoother recovery.

Tummy tuck + Renuvion

Focus on skin tightening

Result: A markedly smoother abdominal contour with a reduced bulging profile. As the patient had some skin laxity, liposuction was combined with Renuvion, which caused the skin to tighten nicely over the new, flatter shape.

Belly liposculpture

Athletic definition

Patient's goal: A 42-year-old man who wanted a more defined and athletic abdominal profile. The goal was to reduce subcutaneous fat and strategically use liposuction to emphasise the body's natural musculature and lines.

The Evolution of You

Injection therapy
Step by step

To ensure you feel completely at ease and know exactly what to expect, we have a strict and safe procedure in place for our injection treatments

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

Your practitioner will carry out a very thorough clinical assessment of your bone structure, skin elasticity and the lymphatic system beneath the eye. We will determine whether the hollows are due to bone structure or pigmentation, and go through your health declaration.

Preparations

Preparing for a safe operation

We will ensure that you have not taken any blood-thinning medication prior to your appointment. The back of your hand will then be cleaned and thoroughly disinfected with chlorhexidine to maintain a sterile working area.

The treatment

Safe care at the clinic

A small amount of local anaesthetic is often applied to the injection site. A blunt cannula is then inserted under the skin. The hyaluronic acid, which also contains an anaesthetic (lidocaine), is distributed in a fan-shaped pattern across the back of the hand. The treatment usually takes around 30 minutes.

After treatment

Awakening and initial rest

The practitioner massages the hands thoroughly, sometimes using a specific cream, to ensure that the filler is completely and evenly distributed and that no lumps form. We go through the expected healing process verbally.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

Avoid exposing your hands to dirty work (such as gardening) or extreme temperatures for the first 48 hours. You should also refrain from strenuous exercise and sauna sessions to minimise the risk of swelling.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

After around 14 days, the hyaluronic acid will have integrated with your own tissue and settled gently. The final skin-rejuvenating result will then be assessed during a follow-up appointment, if required.

Results following treatment

Following a volume-restoring treatment with hyaluronic acid on the hands, the smoothing of tendons and blood vessels is visible immediately. As the hands are a part of the body that we constantly use and move, it is very common to experience some initial swelling, a feeling of tightness and, occasionally, minor bruising during the first few days. The body needs time to integrate the filler with your tissue and bind moisture. The final, soft and anatomically balanced result can be fully assessed after approximately 14 days.

“I’ve always had very veiny, thin hands, even when I was young. The doctor at The Faculty injected the filler using a cannula, and it didn’t hurt at all. My hands regained their soft shape straight away and look much healthier. A very professional and reassuring clinic!” – Anna

Our specialists in injections

At The Faculty, we prioritise medical expertise above all else. All treatments are carried out exclusively by qualified doctors and qualified injection nurses. The back of the hand is a highly complex area to treat, and our specialists possess the in-depth clinical knowledge and fine motor skills required to navigate safely above tendons and beneath veins using a blunt-tipped needle, which is absolutely crucial for a complication-free treatment.

Who can undergo the treatment?

To undergo medical injection treatments, you must be over 18 years of age, in good health and generally well. We do not treat women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The ideal candidate is someone who is experiencing a loss of volume, has prominent blood vessels or very thin skin on their hands. Prior to treatment, we will assess your medical history to rule out any autoimmune diseases or active skin infections that could affect the procedure.

Complications and risks

As with all injections, there are medical risks involved. Harmless and temporary side effects include swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising (which is particularly common on the hands as they are rich in small blood vessels and are constantly in motion). One risk associated with treating the backs of the hands is that the filler may initially feel slightly uneven, which is corrected by careful massage by the practitioner. Vascular occlusion (where the filler accidentally presses on a blood vessel) is an extremely rare but serious risk. Our high level of clinical expertise and the use of blunt-tipped needles significantly minimise these risks.

Other treatments

Loss of volume is rarely the only sign of ageing hands. It is very common for the backs of the hands to also develop hyperpigmentation (age spots) due to years of sun exposure. If you are bothered by pigmentation in addition to wrinkled hands, our specialists often recommend that the injection treatment be supplemented with medical laser treatment or chemical peeling. By combining volume-restoring fillers with pigment-reducing laser treatment, a comprehensive and harmonious rejuvenation of the entire back of the hand is achieved.

Why consider injections in the hands?

Many patients feel that there is a discrepancy between the appearance of their face and their hands, and feel that they have what are known as ‘old hands’ that betray their age. When the underlying layer of fat disappears, tendons, knuckles and blood vessels become much more prominent, which often leads to wrinkled hands. However, this phenomenon is not exclusively age-related; due to genetics and low body fat, younger patients also seek help for wrinkled hands. Having extremely thin skin on the hands is a common medical and aesthetic condition. The motivation for seeking treatment is highly individual, and we create a treatment plan based entirely on your specific tissue.

Frequently asked questions about hand fillers

Here we have compiled some frequently asked questions about skin rejuvenation for the hands

Why do you get wrinkled hands at a young age?

This is largely down to genetics. People with a naturally low body fat percentage, or those born with anatomically thin skin on their hands, often find that their blood vessels and tendons are clearly visible as early as their twenties. Extreme sun exposure early in life also breaks down collagen more quickly and can cause premature ageing of the hands.

Do hand fillers help with visible and protruding blood vessels?

Yes, that is one of the main aims of the treatment. The filler is injected between the skin and the underlying blood vessels/tendons. By building up this layer, the underlying anatomy is ‘cushioned’, making the veins much less prominent and the hands look smoother.

What can you do about extremely thin skin on your hands?

If your skin has become paper-thin and fragile with age (age-related hands), hyaluronic acid can make a huge difference. By injecting a moisturising filler or skin booster, water is bound deep within the tissue, which increases the skin’s thickness, elasticity and radiance from within.

Does it hurt to have fillers injected into your hands?

Many people think it will be very painful because the hands are sensitive, but the treatment is generally very gentle. We use a blunt cannula, which minimises the number of injections, and the hyaluronic acid contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine) that numbs the back of the hand from the inside as the product is distributed.

How long do the results of hand injections last?

The longevity of fillers in the hands is very good. As this area does not experience the same kind of intense, degrading muscle activity as, for example, the lips, a volume-enhancing treatment usually lasts between 9 and 12 months, and sometimes considerably longer, before the body gradually breaks down the hyaluronic acid.

Is it common to have a manicure?

It is a very common and popular treatment, but often receives less attention than facials. Many people place great importance on looking after their face, only to realise later that their hands (wrinkled hands) do not match the rejuvenated appearance of their face.

Can you massage your hands yourself after the treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, your injection specialist will massage your hands to ensure the product is distributed evenly. We recommend that you avoid pressing or massaging the area firmly yourself for the first few days, to allow the filler to settle exactly where it has been medically administered.
