Pre-operative consultation for a lip flip
The first step is a consultation with one of our qualified practitioners, either at the clinic or online. We will carry out a clinical assessment of your muscle activity and go through the treatment process and any potential risks in detail.
Following the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least 48 hours for injection treatments, which gives you time to consider the information at your leisure before deciding to give your consent and proceed with the treatment.

You will meet with a qualified practitioner for an anatomical analysis of your upper lip and muscle activity. We will observe how your lip moves when you speak and smile to ensure that the muscle relaxant produces the desired effect. You will receive detailed information about the procedure, risks and costs, and following the consultation, your statutory 48-hour cooling-off period begins before you give your consent.

Preparing for a safe operation
Once your cooling-off period has passed, it is time for your appointment. In the run-up to the treatment, it is important to avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medication and certain vitamins for a couple of days to minimise the risk of any bruising at the injection sites. You must be in good health and have no active infections or cold sores (herpes) in the area to be treated.
The day of the operation
Safe care at the clinic
At the clinic, you will be welcomed into a sterile and calm environment. The area above your upper lip will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. The practitioner uses a very fine needle to inject precise doses of muscle relaxant into the cupid’s bow and along the lip line. The injection process itself takes only a few minutes and is usually felt as a small, quick prick.

Awakening and initial rest
Immediately after the injections, you may notice slight redness, swelling or small bumps at the injection sites; this is completely normal and usually subsides within a few hours. You can resume your normal activities straight away, but you should avoid touching the treated area, applying make-up or massaging your lips for the next few hours to prevent the product from spreading.

Self-care and convalescence guidelines
In the first few days following your lip flip procedure, the muscle will gradually begin to relax. You should avoid saunas, intense exercise and facial treatments during the first few days. After about 3 to 7 days, you will start to notice that your upper lip does not retract as much when you smile, and the full effect of the treatment will have developed completely after about 14 days.

The effects of a lip flip are temporary and usually last for around 3 to 4 months, depending on your individual metabolism and muscle activity. We recommend that you book a follow-up appointment after two weeks if this is your first treatment with us, so that we can assess the anatomical balance and ensure a consistent and optimal result.
