Hi, just had a face, neck and nose surgery by Jonas R. Too early to say anything about the end result yet but he is magical in his practice so it can only be the best. I have never been treated so well and taken care of, all the way from the first consultation, surgery planning, reception, the surgery team, the two-night stay. First class VIP feeling right through including the environment which is also TopNotch, private room with TV "sea view" and large veranda/balcony. They have their own chef who prepares wonderful food based on wishes and possible allergens. Room service 24/7 Super professionals the whole team I must say. I will definitely come back here again. Kind regards, Anna

So professional, nice treatment from start to finish. Dr. Heden inspires great confidence and I received great information after the operation about how it went. The anesthesia and surgical staff were fantastic, I felt so calm and felt safe in their hands. The care in the nursing ward after the operation was top notch, nice, safe and good breakfast🌸

World class on-site surgery. A professional clinic with Sweden's most skilled and experienced doctors. I have had surgery at other clinics but have not experienced skill and service at this level. Big thanks to Per Hedén and the rest of the staff.

Modern business where everything is new and except for the staff, they are old in the paperclip, incredibly experienced and in sync from the reception, nurses, nurses, anesthesia staff and surgeons. No questions are stupid, and they have a rock-solid understanding of pain relief. When the breakfast tray arrives after waking up, you become a little religious with happiness.

Nice staff throughout the clinic and good aftercare, responds quickly to emails. Lovely Riikka operated on me after the effects of childbirth I had a few years earlier. It was nice to be operated on in an environment that is not depressing and with staff/surgeons who are committed.

What does a labia reduction involve?

Labia reduction (also known as labiaplasty) is a cosmetic and functional surgical procedure aimed at reducing or reshaping the inner or outer labia. By removing excess tissue, the size is adjusted so that the labia become more symmetrical and harmonise with your anatomy. The procedure is usually carried out under general or local anaesthesia and takes around an hour.

Why consider labia reduction surgery?

The reasons for seeking labia reduction vary from person to person. Many women experience practical discomfort in their daily lives, such as chafing and irritation when wearing tight-fitting clothes, pain whilst cycling or exercising, or discomfort during sexual activity. For others, the tissues have stretched as a result of childbirth or changed with age. The motivation stems from a personal choice to adapt one’s anatomy in order to alleviate physical discomfort. We listen to your concerns and draw up a realistic treatment plan tailored to your individual circumstances.

Our methods for labia reduction

We use minimally invasive surgical techniques to promote good wound healing in the mucosa and ensure that any scarring is discreet. During your consultation, the surgeon will assess which method is physiologically best suited to your anatomy.

Wedge technique (Wedge cut)

A tried-and-tested method in which a wedge-shaped piece of tissue is removed from the central part of the labia minora. This ensures that the natural outer edge and pigmentation are preserved.

Direct edge resection (Trim technique)

This involves removing excess tissue directly along the free edge of the labia minora. The method is suitable when the entire edge needs to be reshaped or if the pigmentation is uneven.

Plastic on the outer labia

If the outer labia have lost volume or become saggy, excess skin can be removed surgically. Alternatively, volume can be restored through fat grafting using the patient’s own fat.

Combined procedures

A labia reduction can, if necessary, be combined with a clitoral lift (exposure of the skin fold covering the clitoris), labia minora reduction or liposuction of the mons pubis.

Consultation before your operation

The first step is a consultation with a plastic surgery specialist. You choose whether you want to book an online appointment or meet us in person at the clinic. During the appointment, you will be given medical information about risks, current waiting times and which techniques are best for you.

You will receive a personalised treatment plan tailored to your body. Following your consultation, our coordinator will provide you with detailed information on pre-operative preparations and post-operative care. If you wish, the coordinator can help you arrange a suitable date for your operation.

The Evolution of You

Labia minora reduction
Step by step

To ensure you feel confident and well prepared, we follow a structured and secure process from your first visit right through to the final assessment.

Consultation

You will meet a plastic surgery specialist who will listen to your wishes and examine your anatomy. The surgeon will explain the various incision techniques and assess which is physiologically appropriate for you.

Before your procedure

Once your reflection period is over, our coordinator will contact you. You will be given written instructions stating that you must refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol for four weeks before and after the operation. You should maintain thorough personal hygiene at home.

The day of the operation

At the clinic, you will get changed and meet your surgeon and anaesthetist. The procedure is carried out under general or local anaesthetic and takes about an hour. The surgeon gently removes the excess skin and stitches the incision with dissolvable sutures.

After the operation

Afterwards, you will rest in our recovery ward. It is perfectly normal to experience swelling, tightness, a burning sensation and localised tenderness in the lower abdomen during the first few days. You will be prescribed pain relief tailored to your needs.

Recovery & healing

You will need to rest at home. After using the toilet, gently rinse the area with lukewarm water and pat it dry. You will need to avoid sexual activity, exercise, swimming and saunas for at least six weeks.

Monitoring & results

After about one to two weeks, you will see a nurse for a check-up to monitor the healing process. After about six months, we will book a follow-up appointment with your surgeon for a final check-up and assessment.

Results following labiaplasty

The results following surgery on the inner or outer labia are influenced by your original anatomy. Immediately after you have chosen to have labia reduction surgery, it is perfectly normal for the area to be swollen, feel tight and be tender. Initially, the mucous membrane may feel tight, but the tissue gradually relaxes and adapts to its final position. We monitor your healing process closely, and the final check-up following your labiaplasty usually takes place after 6 months, once all swelling from the intimate surgery has completely subsided.

Our specialists in intimate surgery

All intimate surgery at The Faculty is performed by registered doctors with specialist qualifications in plastic surgery. Our surgeons have extensive clinical experience of plastic surgery in sensitive tissue areas. They regularly participate in international forums to ensure the highest medical standards and safety.

Who is eligible for labia reduction surgery?

To undergo labia reduction surgery, you must be aged 18 or over and in good general health. The procedure is suitable for women who experience functional discomfort or asymmetry in the genital area. During the consultation, a thorough medical assessment of your tissues will be carried out. Any ongoing skin infections in the area, unhealed birth-related injuries or active medical conditions may constitute medical contraindications. Prior to the operation, you must also refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol for four weeks to ensure good healing of the mucous membranes.

Risks associated with labia reduction surgery

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks. General complications include bleeding, infection or asymmetry in the healing process. Specific risks associated with this particular procedure include temporary loss of sensation in the operated area during the initial healing phase, or hardening of the scar tissue. The risk of permanent loss of sensation is very small, but to minimise risks and avoid a failed operation, choosing an experienced specialist surgeon and a gentle technique is crucial to your medical safety.

Other treatments in the field of intimate surgery

Often, it is not just the inner labia that cause chafing or discomfort; rather, the anatomy of the intimate area interacts as a whole. For this reason, labia reduction is sometimes performed in combination with a clitoral hood reduction to create balanced proportions. In addition to labiaplasty, we also offer volume-enhancing treatments for the outer labia, liposuction of the mons pubis, and vaginoplasty for women seeking vaginal rejuvenation or experiencing reduced muscle function following childbirth. During your consultation, we will carefully examine exactly which anatomical structure is causing your specific concerns.

Frequently asked questions about labia reduction

Here we have compiled some frequently asked questions about labia reduction

Does it hurt after labia reduction surgery?

It is normal to experience some burning and tenderness in the first few days following your labiaplasty. Your surgeon will prescribe painkillers to manage this and make your initial recovery easier.

How is a fat transfer to the outer labia performed?

The procedure involves the surgeon gently extracting a small amount of fat from another area of your body (often the abdomen or the backs of the knees). The fat is purified and then injected with high precision into the outer labia to restore natural volume and softness.

How much does labia reduction surgery cost at The Faculty?

The price for labiaplasty starts at 37,500 SEK. You will receive a precise written quote following your clinical assessment during the consultation.

How are the scars from labiaplasty concealed?

The incisions are made in the natural folds and edges of the labia. As blood circulation in the genital area is good, the mucous membranes and skin heal quickly, making the scars virtually invisible once the healing process is complete.

When can you resume sexual activity and exercise?

You will need to avoid sexual activity, saunas, bathing and strenuous physical exercise for at least six weeks to allow the tissues to heal completely without tearing.

What are the signs of infection after the surgery?

You should watch out for localised redness that spreads, increasing swelling, foul-smelling discharge, a fever or a sudden increase in pain. Contact the clinic immediately if you experience any of these symptoms.
