Fillers
Fillers are a popular aesthetic treatment used both to reshape the face and to reduce the signs of ageing.
What are fillers?
Fillers usually consist of a gel-like substance containing hyaluronic acid - a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps retain moisture and volume in the skin. The treatment is done by injections with a fine needle/cannula, in or under the skin or directly on the facial bones. Facial filler injections are usually painless, but may cause some discomfort or swelling after the injection.
The use of hyaluronic acid for aesthetic treatments became possible only when hyaluronic acid became available in non-animal form in the mid-2000s. Per Hedén was actively involved in this development and still has a close scientific contact with the leading producers in the market with involvement as a lecturer and practical tutor for therapists in Sweden and internationally.
There are a number of different fillers on the market. An important aspect of a successful outcome is the choice of which fillers are best for the individual case, which requires a thorough knowledge of the products' properties.
What is treated?
Fillers are used to restore and build volume. The treatment is mainly used on the face to fill in wrinkles and fine lines, to increase volume in the cheeks, lips and cheekbones, to restore pouty lips and to give a more defined jawline. It can also be used to fill in hollows under the eyes.
One of the benefits of the treatment is that it provides immediate results with minimal recovery time. Patients can return to their daily routines immediately after treatment.
How long does the effect last?
The effect usually lasts between nine and 12 months, but can sometimes be much longer. The variation is individual and depends on the type of fillers used and where the injections are made, as well as on age, skin type and lifestyle.
