Loose skin on the thighs or sagging skin on the upper arms (commonly known as ‘bat wings’) can be effectively treated by surgically removing the sagging skin. Back contouring and buttock lift

The very first step is to book a consultation in plastic surgery or skincare. You can choose whether you’d like to book an online appointment or meet us in person at our clinic in Stockholm. During this consultation, the specialist will assess your skin condition, measure any excess skin and listen to your wishes. You’ll receive comprehensive information about risks, expected results and aftercare.
Following the consultation, you are entitled to a statutory and mandatory cooling-off period of at least 7 days for surgical procedures (and 48 hours for cosmetic injections/treatments), so that you can make your decision in peace and quiet before giving your consent.

Before your procedure
Preparing for a safe operation
Once your reflection period is over, your operation will be scheduled. You will be given clear instructions, such as to avoid alcohol and smoking for four weeks beforehand, and to shower twice using antibacterial soap.
The day of the operation
Safe care at the clinic
You will check in at our modern clinic at Hangövägen 20. You will meet your surgeon and anaesthetist for final planning and to have photographs taken before you are put under anaesthesia for the procedure.
After the operation
Awakening and initial rest
You will wake up in our safe recovery ward under close supervision. Tightness, soreness and bruising are completely normal during the first 24 hours, and you will be given pain relief tailored to your needs.
Recovery & healing
Self-care and convalescence guidelines
At home, you’ll need to rest and wear a custom-fitted compression garment or support belt for several weeks to help reduce swelling. You should avoid any exercise that raises your heart rate completely for the first 4 weeks.
Follow-up & results
Medical check-up and final assessment
After about 7 days, you will see a nurse for a check-up to assess the wound and the healing process. A final check-up and photographs with your plastic surgeon will be booked in after about 6 months.

Is it possible to exercise away a post-pregnancy tummy?
Exercise can effectively strengthen the underlying muscles (including after a separation), but unfortunately, excess skin that has lost its elasticity and been affected by stretch marks cannot be eliminated through exercise alone. If there is a significant amount of excess skin, a tummy tuck is usually required to remove the loose skin.
How much excess skin do you need to have to qualify for free surgery through the county council?
In order to be approved for the removal of excess skin through the public healthcare system (county council/region), very strict medical criteria must be met. Often, the skin must have sagged by at least 3–5 centimetres, and you must have maintained a stable weight for at least six to twelve months. Furthermore, the skin must be causing recurring medical problems such as eczema or non-healing sores. If you do not meet these requirements, you can choose to have the procedure carried out privately at our clinic.
How can you avoid loose skin when losing weight?
Losing weight at a slow and controlled pace gives the skin a better chance of tightening naturally. However, the skin’s ability to tighten is strongly influenced by genetics, age and how long the excess weight has been present. In the case of massive weight loss, for example following a gastric bypass, it is almost impossible to completely avoid excess skin.
Does skin tightening on the stomach work without surgery?
Yes, for people with mild to moderate skin laxity, non-surgical methods such as Sofwave can provide a noticeable lifting effect. However, it is important to have realistic expectations; a non-surgical treatment can never replace surgery when there are large amounts of excess skin.

How long does it take to recover after surgery to remove excess skin?
Following major cosmetic surgery, such as a tummy tuck or thigh lift, you will usually be on sick leave for 2–4 weeks, depending on the nature of your work. Non-physical office work in front of a computer can often be resumed after a couple of days, but you should avoid heavy lifting and exercise during the first month.
