What are jawline fillers?

A jawline filler treatment is a non-surgical injection procedure in which a firm, structural form of hyaluronic acid is injected deep along the edge of the lower jawbone. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that binds moisture and creates volume. By strategically placing this jawline hyaluronic acid from the jaw angle towards the chin, it is possible to effectively restore lost bone structure, tighten the overlying tissue and contour the jawline for a more defined and anatomically balanced appearance.

Our approach to fillers for the jawline

To achieve a natural, long-lasting and anatomically correct result, our practitioners use high-density hyaluronic acid fillers, which are essential for replicating the firm structure of the jawbone.

Marking the jaw angle (mandibular angle)

The filler is injected deep into the back of the jaw, just below the ear, to create a defined angle and a strong frame for the face.

Smoothing the jawline

The product is applied evenly along the jawline down to the chin to conceal unevenness and tighten the skin.

Male facial contouring (Jawline filler for men)

Male anatomy differs from female anatomy. For men, we focus on creating a broader, more angular and defined jawline, which contributes to a more masculine and powerful appearance.

Gentle technology and medical precision

Whether the aim is a subtle lift or a more pronounced facial contouring, our injection specialists use refined techniques that minimise tissue trauma. By using microscopically thin needles or blunt cannulas, we work very gently along the jawbone. A precise approach is absolutely crucial to reducing bleeding, minimising swelling and bruising, and ensuring that the filler integrates deeply into the bone for a stable and long-lasting result.

A clinic full of expertise

Administering injections in the lower third of the face requires a thorough understanding of both aesthetics and complex vascular anatomy, as important blood vessels and nerves (as well as the salivary gland) are located in this area. At The Faculty, your medical safety is always our top priority. Our practice is characterised by clinical expertise, sterile environments and open, honest dialogue. You can feel completely safe when undergoing treatment with us.

Price of fillers for the jawline

The jawline is a large anatomical area that often requires more volume than, for example, the lips. Your exact price will be determined during your consultation and is based on the number of millilitres required.

Pre-treatment consultation

The first step is a consultation with one of our injection specialists. You can choose whether to book a virtual appointment or meet us in person at the clinic. During the appointment, you will receive medical information about risks, current waiting times, and which techniques and volumes are best suited to you. You will receive a specific treatment proposal based on your facial anatomy.

After the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least 48 hours (which applies to aesthetic injection treatments) to allow you to decide in your own time whether you wish to give your consent.

Injection along the jawline
Step by step

To ensure you feel completely at ease and know exactly what to expect, we have a strict and safe procedure in place for our injection treatments

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

Your practitioner will carry out a thorough clinical assessment of your jawbone, skin elasticity and the volume of the lower part of your face. We will determine the dosage and go through your health declaration in detail.

Preparations

Preparations for safe treatment

We will check that you have not taken any blood-thinning medication in the last few days. We will then clean and disinfect the entire jaw area very thoroughly with chlorhexidine to ensure a sterile working surface.

The treatment

Safe care at the clinic

We usually use a blunt cannula (microcannula), which involves making a few microscopic incisions through which the cannula is gently inserted under the skin. The filler, which contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine), is injected deep down towards the bone along the jawline. The treatment usually takes 30–40 minutes.

After treatment

The therapist will massage the area as needed to ensure the product is applied evenly along the leg. You’ll be able to see the immediate results in the mirror, and we’ll discuss the expected swelling.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

Do not touch the insertion sites with unwashed hands and do not wear make-up for 12 hours to minimise the risk of infection. To minimise swelling, avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and extreme cold for the first 48 hours. It is advisable to sleep on your back for the first few nights.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

After around 14 days, the filler will have integrated with the tissue. The final, anatomically balanced result will then be assessed during a follow-up appointment, if required.

Results following jawline treatment

The results of your injection treatment are visible immediately. However, it is important to understand the body’s natural healing process. Immediately after the treatment, it is perfectly normal for the jawline and jaw angles to be swollen, feel firm and be tender to the touch. This initial swelling, combined with the fact that the product has not yet softened, means that the jawline may temporarily appear wider or more angular than the actual final result. Within the next 14 days, all swelling will subside, and the hyaluronic acid will integrate with your tissue for a smooth and defined appearance.

Our specialists in injections

At The Faculty, all injection treatments are carried out exclusively by qualified doctors and qualified injection nurses. The area around the jawline and chin is anatomically complex. Our specialists possess in-depth anatomical knowledge and extensive clinical experience, which is absolutely crucial for identifying risk areas, placing the filler in the correct tissue layer and thereby ensuring your medical safety.

Who can undergo the treatment?

To receive filler treatments with us, you must be over 18 and in good general health. We do not treat people who are pregnant or breastfeeding. During the consultation, we will assess your skin quality; if the skin under the jawline is very loose or if there is a large amount of subcutaneous fat, alternative or complementary methods may need to be discussed in order to achieve the desired result.

Complications and risks

As with all injections, there are medical risks. Harmless and temporary side effects include swelling, tenderness and bruising along the jawline. One risk that many people worry about when searching for information online is ‘jawline filler gone wrong’, which usually involves too much filler being placed incorrectly, which can make the face look unnaturally wide or heavy. At The Faculty, we minimise this risk through strict anatomical knowledge and correct dosing. If a patient comes to us with misplaced filler from another clinic, the hyaluronic acid can be safely and effectively dissolved using the enzyme Hyalase. Vascular occlusion (where the filler accidentally presses on a blood vessel) is a very rare but serious risk, which is why a medically competent clinic is essential.

Other treatments for profile balancing

In the vast majority of cases, jawline treatment is combined with fillers in the chin (profile balancing). As the chin forms the front anchor point for the jawline, it is often necessary to enhance its projection in order to create a harmonious line. If the patient has submental fat (double chin), this can sometimes obscure the newly created jawline. In such cases, the injections can be supplemented with a fat-reducing treatment (such as Belkyra or surgical liposuction of the chin) to fully expose the jawbone.

Why consider a jawline filler treatment?

As we age, the facial skeleton resorbs (shrinks) and the fat pads sag. This often results in the jawline losing its definition and the skin around the jawbone appearing loose (so-called ‘hamster cheeks’). Many patients come to us to restore the lost support and achieve a defined jawline. Others, regardless of age, have a naturally softer facial shape and wish for a sharper jawline and more defined contours. The motivation behind booking a treatment with jawline fillers is highly individual, and we design a medical treatment plan that is entirely tailored to your facial anatomy.

Frequently asked questions about fillers

Here we have compiled some frequently asked questions about fillers for the jawline

I have quite a lot of volume in my face – would a 'chubby face 1ml jawline filler' be enough?

If the face has a higher amount of subcutaneous fat (‘chubby face’), 1 ml is rarely enough to create visible definition along the entire jawline. This is because the filler needs to project the bone sufficiently for it to be visible through the fatty tissue. In these cases, a larger volume is often required, or the filler must be combined with a fat-reducing treatment under the chin. However, 1 ml may be sufficient if only a very small, localised adjustment is being made.

Is this treatment common for men (jawline fillers for men)?

Yes, it is one of the most common injection treatments for men. Unlike women, where the aim is often to achieve a softer V-shape, the product is injected into men to create a wider, straighter and more pronounced jawline, giving a distinctly masculine appearance.

How long do the results of jawline fillers last?

The filler used for the jawbone has a very high density (firmness) and is injected deep into the bone where muscle movement is limited. As a result, it is very long-lasting, and the results generally last between 12 and 18 months, sometimes up to two years.

What should I do if my jawline filler treatment goes wrong?

If you have had treatment at another clinic and feel that your face has become too wide, asymmetrical or that the filler feels lumpy, our doctors and nurses can help you. We use the licensed medication Hyalase to quickly and safely dissolve the misplaced hyaluronic acid.

Does the injection hurt?

Most people experience very little pain. As we usually use a blunt cannula, only a few small punctures are made in the skin. Furthermore, the hyaluronic acid contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine), which numbs the area from within during the course of the treatment. However, a feeling of tightness along the leg is completely normal.

How many millilitres are usually needed for a full set of dentures?

It varies from person to person, but the jawline is a long area (from the ear to the chin on both sides). To achieve a visible and comprehensive result across the entire jawline, a total of between 2 and 4 ml is often required. This will be discussed in detail during your consultation.

Are there any downsides to the treatment?

The main limitation is that fillers add physical volume. If the problem in the jawline is solely due to a significant excess of loose skin, a filler can sometimes make the area look heavier. In such cases, a surgical facelift or thread lift is often a more medically appropriate alternative.
